We averaged Vault scores across all retreats in each country (minimum 10 retreats for statistical relevance). The results challenge some assumptions.
The Methodology
We scored 9,400+ retreats across 15 categories: nutrition, fitness, mindfulness, spa, sleep, medical, personalization, amenities, value, activities, education, travel access, sustainability, social proof, and add-ons. Each retreat gets a weighted composite score out of 10.
Countries are ranked by their average score across all retreats in our database.
What the Data Shows
The top-scoring countries tend to share three traits:
- 1.Deep wellness tradition — centuries of healing practice, not imported trends
- 2.Medical integration — licensed practitioners, not just "wellness coaches"
- 3.Hospitality infrastructure — staff training, facility standards, operational consistency
The surprise losers are popular tourist destinations where wellness is bolted onto resort hospitality rather than built into the foundation. Pretty location + yoga mat ≠ good retreat.
The Value Map
The most interesting finding: the highest-scoring countries are NOT the most expensive. India consistently delivers top-tier Ayurvedic programming at 30-50% of European prices. Thailand's spa and mindfulness scores rival Switzerland at a fraction of the cost.
The "you get what you pay for" rule breaks down above $300/night. After that threshold, what you're paying for is location premium and luxury amenities — not necessarily better wellness programming.
